ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC) featured a segment on the 2nd OML Legacy Lectures, which  was held last September 30, and the call for Philippine businesses to adapt to climate change.

In his interview, OML Center Executive Director Rodel D. Lasco spoke of the imperative for businesses to be attuned and respond to climate change. “They also need to adapt. They need to adjust their systems. They need to realize and factor in that our climate is changing and they need to do something about it to ensure business sustainability.”

Guest speaker Valerie Kwan, manager of the Climate Action 100+ of the Asia Investor Group on Climate Change (AIGCC) emphasized the importance of management taking the lead in their companies. “Very often we take the top-down approach where we would expect companies to setup a better governance structure over climate change. That means the need to have someone or a committee in place where there is board-level direction and oversight of climate change issues, and I think this is a first step that is very important.”

Guest speaker Steve R. Wilson, on the other hand, spoke of the role that private sector plays in climate resilience. “I think if we are really going to prevail as a species in the face of this huge risk, we’re going to need not just private money, but private innovation and private knowledge of technology and markets. So we’re going to have know more about what the private actors are doing.”
