SORSOGON CITY (PIA) - An oft-quoted African adage about education reminds that it takes a village to raise a child. That's why the Energy Development Corporation (EDC) - Bacon-Manito Geothermal Project (BMGP) and the National Bookstore Foundation Inc. (NBFI) teamed up to provide critical resources for school children.
Just recently, the EDC-BMGP and NBFI gave free school supplies to pupils of public elementary schools in Bicol.
The event was among the multiple projects that comprise EDC's corporate social responsibility programs for education and National Bookstore's Project Aral program, where at least 4,500 pupils from 14 public elementary schools received notebooks, writing materials and pairs of slippers.
It augmented the Department of Education's (DepEd) quest for zero dropout and Brigada Eskwela, or the National Schools Maintenance Week, in schools within EDC's host communities in the region.
The distribution was witnessed by the school principals of the recipients, DepEd Sorsogon City Schools Division senior education program specialist Armando Engay, Basud Elementary School Parent- Teacher Association president Rasiao Diesta, and EDC-BMGP corporate social responsibility head Eduardo Jimenez.
Teachers of the beneficiaries from Nagotgot Elementary School and Inang Maharang Elementary School expressed gratitude for the assistance granted to their pupils by EDC and NBFI.
EDC's CSR program in education helps the deserving but unprivileged students become successful professionals by providing them with assistance from primary until tertiary education.
