Leveraging on the latest technology and software for education, Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI) formally launched Knowledge TV, a Google-based application that lets teachers and children navigate and watch Knowledge Channel’s videos even without internet.

The beta application and hardware prototype was launched last March 14, 2019 during the Department of Education (DepEd) Cyber Expo held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay. The technology featured a SMART TV installed with the Knowledge TV application which enables users to easily scroll through hundreds of educational videos with a remote via a Google User Interface (UI), a complete departure from the folder-based UI in its portable media libraries. It also boasts a search function so users can quickly access the videos they need by typing a word or topic related to a subject.

Another version of Knowledge TV includes a plug-and-play device which can be used with any LCD TV or monitor with HDMI. “It is a plug-and-play device using HDMI, no more setting up, no more installation, and no internet needed to watch our videos,” Bautista explained. “Knowledge TV is an upgrade from our portable media library. No more searching in folders which usually takes up preparation time for our teachers and the user interface is so easy and simple.”

A booth was also setup during the 3-day event at the PICC Forum so attendees could test and experience first-hand how Knowledge TV works. More than 200 students, teachers, and education heads have visited the booth.

The final version of Knowledge TV is expected for rollout this fourth quarter of 2019.
